The Asylum

The Asylum will be a jaw-dropping, spirit-lifting nomadic space structure - a tent! - and the most beautiful tent in the world. It's a flexible structure with the potential to range from a 200-seater that would be perfect for a village green or a school playing field, to a 1000-seat auditorium that could command London's South Bank, Watergate Bay or Sydney Harbour.

This dream has heart. We want to shout to all who pass that they are welcomed. We want to create brilliant, witty and moving work and show it in the most beautiful tent in the world! We want to whoop and dance, cry and gasp, show films, art, host ear-tickling gigs, eat excellent food and drink, and perform Kneehigh shows old and new.

If the show were The Red Shoes we could dance the night away. After Tristan and Yseult we'd all take part in the karaoke of the unloved. We could have a tea dance like you've never known it with Brief Encounter - ballroom, banburys and balloons. Sip snowballs and slowdance after Don John. Or bring the whole family and eat home made pizza before Rapunzel!

What pleasures we will find - the limits are only as small as our imaginations!

Kneehigh needs to raise £3/4 million to build The Asylum. With help from Cornwall Council, Arts Council England and some marvellous trusts and foundations we are so close to our fundraising target - but we still need your help and support to make it happen!
