Paul Crewes to become Artistic Director at the Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts in Beverly Hills

Paul will begin his appointment in April 2016

Paul joined Kneehigh in 2005 as Producer, and became Chief Executive of the company in 2010. Over the last ten years Paul has produced some of our best loved shows including, Tristan & Yseult, Midnight's Pumpkin, Cymbeline, Steptoe & Son, Rapunzel, Hansel & Gretel, The Wild Bride, Dead Dog in a Suitcase (and other love songs) and 946, as well as the international tours of Tristan & Yseult, The Red Shoes, and Brief Encounter to America, Australia, Brazil, Columbia and New Zealand. Paul also presided over the  launch of the Kneehigh Asylum and has produced five successful seasons in Cornwall.

Paul will be joining the Wallis as their first artistic director. The theatre is located in heart of Beverly Hills and presents theatre from all over the world, as well as its own original productions. The venue opened in 2013 and our production of Brief Encounter was part of their inaugural season.

Alan Livingston, Chair of our Board of Trustees said, "Paul has secured Kneehigh's position as one of the UK's best loved theatre companies, and leaves us in a financially strong place, with an ambitious and exciting programme planned for the next eighteen months. This legacy is due to his leadership and creative vision. We are looking forward to developing a new relationship with Paul in the future"

Mike Shepherd, Artistic Director, said "As Executive Producer Paul Crewes has led the company magnificently. He has combined a daring entrepreneurial spirit with a love of the work and a deep and detailed care of every aspect of the company. He has made things happen against the odds. Kneehigh is at the top of its game at home and abroad and, without doubt, Paul will be very difficult to replace. However, we have a host of exciting shows and projects planned for the next three years. Our challenge is to deliver them - plans are afoot!"

We wish Paul the best of luck with his new role in America!
