Original cast and new faces make up the new Tristan & Yseult company
Several of the original cast are returning: Tristan Sturrock (Brief Encounter), whose one-man show Mayday Mayday has just finished a much lauded run in New York, will be playing the part of the enigmatic Tristan in the UK, and Mike Shepherd, Founder and co-artistic director of Kneehigh, reprises his role as the Cornish King Mark. Giles King and Craig Johnson also return as King Mark’s right hand man Frocin and Yseult’s long-suffering ‘lady’-in-waiting Brangian. They are joined by Kneehigh musicians Stu Barker and Ian Ross.
Alongside these Kneehigh stalwarts, there will be some relatively new faces. Bringing new members into the company was a real success with The Wild Bride, when Andrew Durand took on the part of the Devil for the US dates. He will be playing Tristan when the show goes to the US this winter.
Carly Bawden (My Fair Lady, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) will be Whitehands, and Yseult, the beautiful and tragic heroine, will be played in the UK and Berkeley by Patrycja Kujawska (The Red Shoes, The Wild Bride). Etta Murfitt (The Wild Bride, Associate Director at Matthew Bourne's New adventures) will play Yseult in Minneapolis and Chiacgo next year. The company is completed with Stu Goodwin (The Wild Bride, Midnight’s Pumpkin) who takes over the role of King Mark for some of the US tour, plus musicians/ensemble members Myke Vince, Perran Ogers, Robbi Lucksy, and Lizzie Westcott
