My name is Daryl. I’ve made some video animation trailers for Kneehigh’s new show, Dead Dog in a Suitcase (and other love songs).
You can view them, and my other work here. I also made the poster for this show (above)
Do you like them? I hope so.
To create this work I wore a black suit and white shirt and worked everyday for a month and a half in the foyer of The Royal Court, London.
I used paper, child friendly pens a single format camera and an old typewriter plugged into the ethernet.
The ethernet was handy as it allowed me to connect directly with Kneehigh, and the Everyman & Playhouse.
The photo of me working below was taken by a security guard shortly before my arrest.
Kneehigh and The Everyman worked me like an old steam train, shovelling coal into me without a pasty break.
But they kindly allowed me to build the track in front of my wheels as we traveled into the unknown, the only stipulation was that we passed certain stations along the way… it was the least I could do.
I’ve worked with Kneehigh since 1999. I think that says a lot. I love Kneehigh.
This is the first time i’ve worked with the Everyman & Playhouse, hopefully it won’t be the last time. They are super open minded and relaxed to work with. In my humble opinion this often gets the best results (judge for yourself).
I’m looking forward to seeing Dead Dog in a Suitcase (and other love songs) at the Everyman in Liverpool in June.. and then again at the Kneehigh Asylum tent later in the summer. I hope to see you there.
