Kneehigh announce cast and dates for US tour of Tristan & Yseult in 2014/15

One of Kneehigh’s best-loved shows, Tristan & Yseult is ready for another state-side adventure. Billed by critics as “a triumph”, “deliriously joyful” and “breath-taking in every respect”, this free-wheeling and highly inventive production catapulted Kneehigh onto the national stage.

This November, the company begin a six month tour in the US, visiting New York, Orange County, Boston and Houston.

Tristan & Yseult is the original tale of forbidden desires, broken hearts and the agony of choosing one human being over another. Seen through the eyes of the 'Club of the Unloved', Tristan & Yseult blends comedy, live music, grand passion and tender truths, in an irresistible night of love.

Fresh from playing Macheath in Kneehigh’s most recent production, Dead Dog in a Suitcase (and other love songs), Dominic Marsh will take the title role of Tristan. He first worked with Kneehigh on Umbrellas of Cherbourg in 2011. Dominic also plays the lead in the musical feature film ‘Lucky Stiff’ which will premiere at Raindance Film Festival in September.

Playing opposite Dominic will be a new face to Kneehigh, Hannah Vassallo.  Kneehigh were introduced to Hannah by Associate Artist Etta Murfitt. Hannah is Principal dancer with Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, and played Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, which was released as a feature film. She also recently placed Baby Houseman in Dirty Dancing in the West End

The role of King Mark is shared by Mike Shepherd (Kneehigh’s founder and Joint Artistic Director, who played the role in the original production back in 2003) and Stuart Goodwin, who has worked with the company since 2011 in shows including The Wild Bride and the previous US tour of Tristan & Yseult.

American actor Damon Daunno plays Frocin, King Mark’s faithful servant. Damon was last with Kneehigh in the US tours of The Wild Bride and Brief Encounter.

Kirsty Woodward takes the part of Whitehands, the narrator of the piece and leader of the ‘Club of the Unloved’. Kirsty first joined Kneehigh as an apprentice for their version of Cymbeline and has worked with them on many shows since then, most recently on Steptoe and Son. Outside Kneehigh, Kirsty has performed extensively with the RSC.

Another member of the ‘Club of the Unloved’, Yseult’s servant Brangian is played by Niall Ashdown. He has worked with the Comedy Store, Improbable, and Impropera, creates his own award winning shows, and worked with Emma Rice in 2001 on his show The Hungarian Bird Festival.

The ensemble is completed by Tom Jackson Greaves (a dancer from Cornwall), Gareth Charlton and Robert Luckay (who both toured previously with Kneehigh in Tristan & Yseult), and musicians Stu Barker, Lizzy Westcott, Justin Radford and Pat Moran, all of whom have toured recently with the company.

Tristan & Yseult opens at St Ann’s Warehouse  in Brooklyn on 13th November, before touring to the South Coast Rep in Orange County, The Emerson, Boston, and The Alley Theater, Houston.
