Kneehigh Asylum

The Asylum is our award winning, long-awaited, much dreamed about, jaw-dropping, spirit-lifting nomadic theatre space. A place of fun, playfulness and sanctuary, the Asylum is a purpose built tent, a home and "a place predisposed to magic". With theatre, live music, and fine food and drink, the Asylum is a great night out.

In Cornwall for the sixth year, the Asylum seasons are a chance for friends old and new to enjoy world class theatre, delicious food and drink, live music and a good old-fashioned Kneehigh knees-up.

In July and August 2016 we showcased three exciting new shows, The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk, FUP and The Two Gentlemen of Verona, a visitng production from Shakespeare's Globe.

We try to make access to the Asylum as easy as possible for everyone, but there is no getting away from it, the Asylum is a large tent in the middle of a field. If it has been particularly rainy the site can get very wet so we advise wearing sensible shoes, as well as bringing warm layers to evening performances as it can get a bit chilly.

The seating the Asylum is raked, so if you have trouble climbing stairs we advise you to book your seats as close to the front as possible, Unlike in previous years, all of the seats will have backs to them so it is easier for you to sit.

When you arrive on site please let our Asylum volunteers know  if you require a disabled parking space.

Wheelchair users are of course welcome to the Asylum, but please ensure you book your tickets over the telephone and inform the Hall for Cornwall that you require a wheelchair space. We will be annoucing signed performace dates very soon, please keep an eye on our website, Facebook, and Twitter for more information,

If you have any questions about access at the Asylum please call the Kneehigh office on 01872 267910.

Volunteer for us!

Every year, we go on the hunt for people to join our Volunteer Team for the Asylum. It's a fantastic opportunity to join the joyful anarchy that is Kneehigh, and we'll announce application dates for our next Asylum season nearer the time.

Kneehigh Theatre

Kneehigh are a UK based theatre company with a local, national and international profile. For over 30 years we have created vigorous, popular and challenging theatre and perform with the joyful anarchy that audiences have come to expect from this ground-breaking company.

Kneehigh tell stories. Based in Cornwall in breath-taking barns on the south coast we create theatre of humanity on an epic and tiny scale. We work with an ever-changing ensemble of performers, artists, technicians, administrators, makers and musicians and are passionate about our multi-disciplined creative process.

In 2010 Kneehigh launched The Asylum, a beautiful and flexible nomadic structure, which means we now have a venue to call home as well as being one of the leading touring theatre companies in the UK. We have now presented five seasons in The Asylum in Cornwall, and will continue to reinvent the space and explore new locations in future years. The Asylum will return to Cornwall in 2016.

Alongside our national and international touring and Asylum seasons, we run the Kneehigh Rambles Programme - aiming to engage creatively with communities in Cornwall and beyond through event and adventure.
