The Asylum 2019 took place on Carlyon Beach in St Austell Bay, Cornwall.
The Asylum is Kneehigh’s bespoke venue, providing an exciting space to perform our own shows and to host our friends and collaborators. It is a pop-up palace for fun, hope and escape. It is a sanctuary where we can come together to tell stories, to dance, to eat, to drink and celebrate.
This summer, the Asylum took place in an exciting new location… the beach!
Thank you to everybody who joined us for a festival-tinged summer season of live theatre, music, food and drink on Carlyon Beach in the heart of St Austell Bay.

Kneehigh's Ubu! A Singalong Satire
15 Aug - 1 Sept
We all know King Ubu. That deranged dictator we all love to hate.
Impossibly greedy, unstoppably crude, inexorably daft and hell-bent on making the country great again!
Asylum festivities continued into September thanks to our Coastal Community Programme. We have programmed a fabulous mini festival that celebrates exciting work from our close collaborators. We’re proud to say that every show on offer stands in defiance to these mad, mixed-up times we’re currently living in.
