The matinees start at 3pm and the evening shows start at 7:00pm (The Dancing Frog) or 7:30pm (Ubu) but the site is open all day. Please do come early, eat, drink, chat to friends, listen to music, build sandcastles and generally get into the spirit of the night. There will be plenty to see, hear and do.
Driving:
Please respect our neighbours and follow the route given to avoid residential areas. Follow the A390 through St Austell. Pass the Pinetum Gardens and take a right at the next roundabout onto Par Moor Road. Turn right after Screwfix to pass a campsite on your right. Follow the road round to the right, then take a left at the Crossroad onto Beach Road. Park at the top car park and walk down the steps or level track onto the beach.
Public transport:
For daytime shows, the number 25 bus goes to Carlyon Bay.
For evening shows a taxi from St Austell train station takes about 12 minutes.
Seating is unreserved and standing for UBU. For other shows there are unreserved seats but all the seats in the Asylum have great views of the show. We provide cushions and rugs to keep everyone comfy and snug, and for those with mobility issues, we have seats reserved at the lower part of the auditorium that offer ease of access and full back support. You can also hire back supports from the FOH area. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring your own cushions and rugs – whatever makes you most comfortable.
If you need any particular assistance, please let us know in advance and we can ensure you are catered for.
There is plenty of free parking on site, with disabled parking just a moment away from the entrance to the tent. Our team will be on hand to deal with any special requirements, again if there is anything specific we’ll need to think about, please let us know so we can be organised in advance of your arrival on site.
The Asylum is intended to be a place of sanctuary, fun and freedom. We have worked with the pop ups on the beach to ensure that there is a great selection of locally sourced food and drink on site. If we are lucky with the weather, and you would still like to bring your own food then you are welcome to, but we wholeheartedly encourage you to take advantage of the delicious food on offer – all very reasonably priced.
The whole site is licensed and as such we can’t allow people to bring their own drinks on site. There a great bar on site.
The pop ups on the beach get very busy on sunny days. To guarantee you’ll get your food before the show, please pre-order from the Offbeat Bar & Kitchen by calling 07967384837. You can see their menu on our Food & Drink page. Parties of six or more must pre-order food. Pre-orders can be taken up to 9pm on the evening before the performance.
For something quicker, you can pre-order a picnic from Ogy1 Pasty shop. See here for the menu, and order by emailing orders@ogy1.co.uk.
There is a seasonal dog ban on Carlyon Beach, so please leave your pups at home.
The Dancing Frog is suitable for adults, children and frogs of all shapes and sizes, however Ubu is recommended for all those 10+.
Offbeat Bar is licensed until 11pm.
Unless we have sold the shows to capacity, we are not able to resell tickets. Occasionally, we will transfer a spare ticket to an alternative performance.
We are aware that sometimes life throws situations that change our circumstances, and where we can we will try to accommodate your situation by offering to exchange tickets for a different performance, subject to availability.
For ticketing purposes a Child is from 2 to 16 years. If they are under 2 years they will not need a ticket and can sit on your lap. If they are over 16 you can purchase an Under 26 ticket.
There’s no denying it, the Asylum is pitched on a beach at the bottom of a steep hill, but we have made it as easy as possible for everyone to enjoy the Asylum experience.
There is parking at the top of the hill, and a tarmacked sloped road down to the site.
We also have a parking area right next to the tent. Let the stewards know when you arrive if you’d like to use this.
The ground around the tent is not sand but it is gravelly and slightly uneven, though very flat.
Once in the tent there are ramps, platforms for wheelchair viewing, and seats with backs for those who need them.
If you have any other particular access requirements, please do let us know by calling 01872 267912 or email tickets@kneehigh.co.uk.
